To a mate that matters…
Mateship… it’s part of the foundations of our society and ingrained into the Australian psyche, with COVID-19 showing us just how valued it is. For a lot of people, it’s our mates who are there for us when we need them the most and it’s our mates who we lean on when we’re falling down to make sure we keep getting up again.
However, we have seen over the past few months a challenge to everything it means to be a mate and some people have unfortunately found themselves in a position where they have felt that not even the strength of their mates is enough to keep them from standing.
We invite you now to send a note #ToAMateThatMatters and reach out to someone by letting them know what they mean to you, just how valued they are and to remind them that you are there for them unconditionally and whenever they need you.
Right Mate Incorporated and The Kindness Pandemic are working together to promote one simple strategy that will offer our community the opportunity to connect in the current environment of social disconnection and reaffirm those bonds of friendship. That strategy is human connection; an art form that has been temporarily taken away from us and has made checking in with your mates just that little bit more difficult than it usually is.
Who is Right Mate?
Right Mate was founded by a desire to change the narrative when it comes to men’s Mental Health. Driven by lived experience, the founders Chris & Luke, both Geelong locals are passionate about not only encouraging the conversation but understanding the actual issue and offering avenues for solutions. Their aim is to build a community of men and those that support them who not only look out for each other but are comfortable in their skin and ultimately have the skills to encourage others to do the same.
How to participate
Digital Post – “#ToAMateThatMatters”
Simply write your note below to someone you know, someone who is no longer with us, a complete stranger… it doesn’t matter. We want to hear what it is you would say to them if you could see them, what you wished they said to you if they are no longer with us, or what you would like to say to anyone. This can be completely anonymous or you can sign off with your name/nickname, and the post will then populate below automatically.
The aim is for us to ask you, our community, what it is you wish you knew and what it is you want everyone else to know and show us what human connection means to you, so we encourage you to be as open and honest as you can.
*Please Note – we respectfully ask that you don’t use surnames in your messages, in order to maintain the privacy of those you are talking about.
To a mate that matters; A note to not just one person but to a whole community, letting them know that someone cares.
